Week 5, Term 4

Hi Everyone,

We have had a super exciting week so far and it's only Wednesday!

Yesterday we had a visit from Rachel Hunter who came to pick up her Buddy made by Leianah and Mackenzie. Buddy Day is about raising awareness of child abuse in NZ. Celebrities, politicians, and business people spend the day with a Buddy made by children in schools around NZ to raise awareness and to get people talking about this important issue.

We had the Prime News film crew here, our part starts at 8.39 on the link below:

Today was our trip to Kiwi Valley Farm. We had such a great time seeing and feeding all the animals, holding baby animals, going through the maze, having a tractor ride and even going on the bus!

Here are some photos from our day.

Week 3, Term 4

Hi Everyone,

We have attached a copy of our Term 4 newsletter for you to read. The dates listed are all tentative dates, we will send home more information as needed for trips etc.  If you got this newsletter from class in week 1, you'll notice that a trip to Kiwi Valley is listed for next week - this is no longer the case. You will have information regarding this trip on Monday next week.

Our two Touch Rugby teams have had a great start. Thank you for all the parent support. Their games are on Wednesday afternoons we welcome all families to come and support our teams. A notice regarding fees will come home next week.

We have been learning about planting and growing in Learning Common 2. We made some tyre gardens for Learning Common 1 and have planted beautiful flowers in them. We've also planted the school gardens with veges, herbs and strawberries. Please check out how they're going. Feel free to pop in and water them if you're around on the weekend! (BYO watering can, water available from the drinking fountains)

Week 4, Term 3

Over the last two weeks we have had more new students start.   Welcome to all our new students and their families.
In our common you will notice that we have created a Recyclable table.  Items that go on this table will be used by our students to create art and construction.  We would love you to bring in items such as wool, buttons, milk bottle tops, cream tops, picture frames, egg cartons, magazines, old CD's.

This week a group of boys got to go to Whenupai Airbase.  Corporal Robert Hunt organised a visit aboard two planes, the kids got to sit up in the cockpits and see another plane landing.

We then had lunch at the base, another highlight.  Finally the boys got to meet the security dogs.  We were able to see how they are trained and how they restrain a bad person.

Next time I hope other friends can go and do some great learning too.

Over the next two weeks we will be feeding back how your child's Personalised Learning Plan is going.

Week 10, Term 2

Hi Families,

Thanks for another fantastic term! We thought we would share some photos for our last post of term 2.

We will be creating a family area in our common next term and would love for your child to bring a framed family photo to school for our display. Preferably 6x4 sized photos. If you don't have one, we are happy to take photos for you at school.

Here are some photos of our zoo trip and the planting day we had a few weeks ago.

Enjoy the break and we will look forward to seeing you in week one.

Week 9, Term 2

Hi Everyone

Just letting you know that we have planned a trip to the zoo for next Tuesday, 9th July.
We will be sending home a permission slip tomorrow and need this back as soon as possible. The cost of the trip will be covered by your term 2 activity fee so if you haven't paid this yet, please talk to Karma at the office - she can give you information about how to pay online or here at school.
We will be transporting children in cars for the trip and really need a parent to help transport children - if you are available to help out on the day and have a big car (could take more than 3 or 4 children) we would love to hear from you.

We are looking forward to catching up with you all at our IEMs this week.

Keep an eye out for the permission slip tomorrow!

Hi Everyone,

Another week of exciting learning has flown by! We have been working on a collaborative art piece for our foyer this week so make sure you ask your child about the planes we have been making. An expert hard materials teacher came in to assist us with this learning and it has been very exciting developing some new skills. We will add some photos of this process next week.

As you know, we have our official school opening ceremony on Thursday next week. Families are welcome so please RSVP to Karma at the office by Tuesday if you intend to come.

Below are some photo highlights for you to enjoy.

Week 3, Term 2

Welcome to Zaria, Will, Ben, Phoenix, Madison and all our Learning Common students and families,

We are excited about how our students are progressing academically and socially.  This term we are finishing our Inventive Thinking inquiry, the children are working on creating some interactive spaces to work in, planning a Zoo trip as the children have expressed an interest in animals, this will form one of our provocations.  Some students are involved in creating a cafe/library area to welcome the community and children into those areas.  Lastly we have a group who is developing PE equipment that they are particularly keen to explore or use to enhance their Motor skills.

Thank you to the parents who attended our recent parent workshops, we will be running some more workshops in a couple of weeks time.  If you have any ideas for workshops that you would like us to run please let us know.  We are keen to explore how you might be able to support the running of our workshops.  If you would like to observe how we do this and how you might support please let one of us know and we can organise this for you.

We will be having a toy day on Wednesday 5 June.  We ask that the children do not bring toys other than the toy days that we organise, as this can create issues for some students.

Some of our children have joined local sports clubs for the Winter.  We will have an update on other sporting opportunities that the children can be apart of school, after a team of us have worked with North harbour Sports to develop an action plan for our school.
